Deadly Funny Comedy Workshop

Presented by Desert Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival


For almost 20 years, this deadly competition has been travelling so-called Australia to unearth the freshest, fiercest, funniest First Nations comedians and yarn-spinners.

Aspiring First Nations comedians will sit with a seasoned professional comedian in a 90-minute Comedy Workshop to help refine ideas. All you need is 3-5 mins of comedy material. Whether it’s stand-up, musical, sketch, physical/dance, character-based, or simply sharing a funny yarn, the stage is yours. You can take part as an individual, duo, or even a trio.

Once you’ve refined your ideas you’ll take to the stage at Olive Pink to showcase your routine in front of friends, family and 2 Deadly Funny judges, where a winner will be selected.

The showcase winner will be flown to Melbourne for the 2025 Melbourne International Comedy Festival for the Deadly Funny National Grand Final where you will compete for the Deadly Funny crown and a $3,000 cash prize!
