When the Rains Come - What the Bones Remember

In the rain event of 2026, six weeks of rain filled the rivers of Central Australia. In Alcoota, one of Australia’s most significant megafauna fossil sites, the artists of Engawala Art Centre heard the ancient crying of the megafauna at dawn and dusk.

When the Rains Come — What the Bones Remember is a multi-form exhibition weaving this testimony together with the eight-million-year fossil record of Alcoota. The exhibition comprises three bodies of work united by a shared symbolic language developed collaboratively by the artists: terracotta wall pieces conceived as monumental body adornment, ceramic jewellery and paintings on canvas which carry the story across country, season, and deep time.

Exhibition officially opens Friday Sep 11th at 4pm.
