The near future.
At 77, Tereza (Denise Weinberg) has spent her life in a small Brazilian town when she is ordered by the government to relocate to a senior housing colony – a place from which no one has ever returned.
Faced with this fate, Tereza chooses courage over resignation: before surrendering, she resolves to chase a lifelong dream of flying on a plane.
Denied the chance to buy a ticket yet undeterred, she boldly sets out by boat with skipper Cadu (Rodrigo Santoro, Love Actually), who introduces her to the psychedelic use of a rare blue snail – said to reveal the truth of the world, and of oneself.
Her fearless journey across the Amazon’s rivers and tributaries becomes one of transformation – altering not only her mind, but her destiny.
“I wanted to create an interplay between the lyrical and the playful – a post-tropical delirium that blurs the line between dystopia and fantasy” says Mascaro.
With its dazzling imagery, Mascaro’s unforgettable, anti-authoritarian fable celebrates resilience, wonder, and the magic of defiance.
