St Philip’s College presents the Tony-award nominated musical, Disney’s Newsies, based on a real-life David-versus-Goliath strike to fight for what is right.
Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy living in turn of the century New York City, dreams of escaping his small life in a big city. But when the price of newspapers is suddenly increased, he must rise and lead a rag-tag group of teenage “newsies” to stand against publishing titan Joseph Pulitzer.
Featuring songs from eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act), such as “Seize the Day,” “King of New York” and “Santa Fe”, Newsies is inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899.
